Tempura Bar KusukeIzakaya[Marunouchi, Kofu City]
This izakaya restaurant, which boasts tempura, opened in December 2023 right in front of the south exit of Kofu Station. There is a counter and two-person seating just inside the entrance, and in the back there are semi-private rooms with four and ten-person seating, as well as a secret base-like tatami space with a low ceiling on the second floor that can be enjoyed by groups.
The best thing about this fashionable izakaya is the tempura, fried right in front of you. Shrimp, conger eel, asparagus, and eggplant, covered in a thin batter, swim in a beautiful sea of sesame-based oil blend... The sweetness and flavor of the ingredients are tightly packed, making each crunchy, freshly fried piece twice as delicious, so you can savor them one by one. Season with your favorite seasonings such as green laver salt, rock salt, and tempura sauce. Pair tempura with a sharp, dry sake. Among them, "Kido Tokubetsu Junmai Karakuchi Kid" has a soft flavor but a clean aftertaste. They stock new sake that goes well with tempura every season.
I'd like to say it's the final dish, but many people visit just for this, and it is often chosen as the first dish. It's like a Kusuke-style oyakodon, with eggs mixed with homemade tempura sauce carefully made from dashi. The moist, plump and juicy fried chicken breast is meltingly soft, creating the perfect harmony with the sweetness of the soft, runny soft-boiled egg. The egg, with its delicious dashi stock, has an authentic taste like you'd get at a high-class restaurant, and is truly delicious! The portion of rice is surprisingly large, but it's so delicious that you'll finish it off in no time.
