"Kikuchi-ya" is pronounced "Kikuchinchi" and it does not seem to be a particular family-run restaurant, but they do have something on the menu called "family-run oil soba"!
There is a ticket machine right inside, and the menu has three types of noodles: "Odo Soup Abura Soba", "Iekei Abura Soba", and "Special Dandan Abura Soba". You can choose from regular, large, double, and extra large portions, and there is also a student discount, making this a very convenient restaurant for students who love to eat.
There are five seats at the counter, one four-seater table, and two seats in the tatami room, and on this day it was bustling with what appeared to be high school students.
I decided to start with the "Royal Soup Abura Soba." I was told that I could choose the amount of garlic and vegetables, so I chose "normal" for both and topped it with a boiled egg.
Instead of oil, the ramen is topped with a tonkotsu soup made from pork bones from Kagoshima Prefecture that have been boiled to the limit and condensed, pitch black garlic oil (burnt garlic oil), and plenty of grated garlic, giving it a hearty impression.
The pork bone soup and garlic are poured into the bottom of the bowl and mixed well with a special sauce made from a blend of several types of soy sauce and seafood stock such as oysters. The soup is well mixed with the chewy, medium-thick noodles, and the punchy double garlic is the key to its deliciousness. However, the seafood stock makes the soy sauce taste milder, making it easy to eat.
The boiled egg topping is cooked just right, not so hard that the yolk spills out, which is wonderful.
The thinly sliced rare char siu is moist and juicy.
If you want to eat thicker slices of char siu that are this delicious, then you should definitely try the rare char siu bowl. Rare texture with a meaty taste... Add a raw egg and you'll have a luxurious char siu TKG♪ How about pairing it with the unique "Iekei Abura Soba" that combines rich pork and chicken?
